Google Earth
This may be old news for some, but I just ran across the coolest mapping program ever: Google Earth. I have used many types of programs to map, but by far this one takes the cake. It has clean graphics, accurate information, and really neat added features (dining, lodging, etc).
If you have not looked at it yet, GO NOW, download their small download, install it and give it a spin.

It’s got some 3d stuff, which is really cool. Go look at the mountains or something then start scrolling along…It’s awesome.
