Kubrik Temporary Template

Archived 2 Comments »

I apologize in advance for activating this template for my blog, it is only temporary. There were some things (specifically the comments) that bothered me and I felt it necessary to make them all more readable. This will be the ‘temp’ layout until I finish the CSS for the new look… I appreciate everyone’s paitence as I finish that layout (eta January 2006).

Liquid cooling for PC’s

Archived No Comments »

As with many of the magazines I get in the mail they sit until I have some spare time to briefly skim through them. I quickly scan page by page looking for something that catches my interest. I ran across a little blurb I thought I would pass on.

Alienware is working on lowering the operating tempature of their computers. How you ask? Liquid cooling. No fans, not only is this to help with cooling, but it is said to reduce the noise that computers naturally make because of those fans.

Here is a detail page for one of their computers. Visit Link.

I know this isn’t really anything earth shattering, but I found it pretty interesting.

Web Standards Followed by - Microsoft?

Archived 9 Comments »

Of all the crazy things I have read, today’s post at Forever Geek just about made me fall out of my chair. Of 15 well known companies ran through the the W3C standards validator only 2 had 0 errors and those two were Microsoft and MSN. Now you see why it nearly knocked me on the ground.

I look at it this way if Microsoft thinks enough of the web standards to incorporate them into their websites, why don’t they value them enough to have their browser support more of them? Before everyone jumps down my throat and tries to stake me up, hear me out. I know the new Internet Explorer 7 is going to support a greater number of the web standards. Yet I know they are only doing that because of the pressure from influencial Web Designers, Developers, Activists, and of course competing companies like Fire Fox*. I guess that is what suprised me the most about their sites being ’standardized’. Ohh well, enjoy this article and try a few of the sites you visit often and see how they fair according to W3C.

* I know that Fire Fox didn’t pass the Acid test either, but I am sure most designers would agree that Fire Fox supports far more standards than IE.

T-Shirt Design Contest

Archived No Comments »

After months of the preperation and planning my contest goes LIVE. The contest is very simple and is for graphic designers of all talent levels. The object is to make a design to be used on a t-shirt. Three winners will be choosen by public voting. Nice prizes accompany the winners ranging from cash to domain name registration and more.

I encourage you to join the graphics fun and spread the word. Blog about it, post about it, write it on the public restroom mirror (OK well maybe not that one). This contest is the precursor to the actual launching of the network of stores selling the What’s Your Factor line. This is one opportunity for you to be invovled in a product line before it goes public. Head over to the site and enter.

For Your Information - Change is coming

Archived No Comments »

In an effort to keep up with the changes both in my life and with this website, change is coming. So what exactly is going on then? This site started out as a photo gallery to share pictures of my family some two years ago. It has evolved from just a gallery to also include a blog. The blog started out to be family happenings and then underwent ’surgery’ to remove those posts and then I turned the focus to really anything web related. As the founder of Design Studio Magazine, the Lead web designers for Christian Designs, and a secret project to be announced in January the focus of the blog and site are shifting.

This shift is going to be a positive one as I will be focusing more on the blog by stepping up the quality and content of everything. To do that I needed to have a different web address. Since the focus has changed from primarily a gallery site to more of an information site I think the url needs to reflect the change as well. With much deliberation and name batting with my wife, the new site name has been choosen. FocusMinded.com was purchased and will be the new home for this blog (and gallery - which will also undergo some changes). As with any new name or focus, a new look is sure to follow. I am excited that FM will hopefully be officially launched in January. I look forward to the new focus with anticipation and of course some butterflies tickling my insides.
